As the Gulf Coast Community Foundation celebrates its 25th anniversary and embarks on its annual Friends of the Foundation campaign, we are sponsoring in a coastal beautification contest. Nonprofit and community groups, local businesses and artists will be challenged to create a visual representation of how they “Leave their Mark” in our community. The canvas of choice: 55 gallon barrels that will ultimately be used as trash receptacles on beaches and parks across Harrison County. These trash barrels will be serve as a colorful, visual reminder of how non-profit and community groups are making a difference in South Mississippi and also encourage people to keep our coast clean by properly disposing of trash.
This was painted from the heart. The mission was to "tell the story" of Hope Haven. For me, it is a mission, here on the coast, of moving children from the "Dark" to the "Light", and the process of moving onward and upward, It is the story of resilience and the crab personifies that . The life story of the crab is fascinating for me. Just prior to the final molt, an immature female crab, known as a "she-crab", is cradled by a mature male. The female is escorted by the male, commonly referred to as a "doubler", for a few days before and after her molt.
